August 2021 looks to be a livelier month to get players ready for the many games announced and expected to launch this fall and winter. While there isn’t too much coming until the middle of the month, the last couple of weeks of August are packed with new games. Take a look below for these gaming titles not to be missed.
One of the first next-gen games, Godfall was released for Windows and PlayStation 5 in November 2020. Now, on August 10, 2021, Godfall will be released on the PlayStation 4.
Developed by Counterplay Games and published by Gearbox Publishing, Godfall is an action RPG set in a fantasy world, where Earth is split into 3 realms, Earth, Water, and Air. The player controls one of the last exalted Knight’s Order to prevent an apocalyptic event.
Being an RPG with a focus on melee attacks rather than ranged ones, the game allows the player to select from 5 different weapon classes – including longsword, dual blades, and a war hammer. Further adding to the RPG elements, each character class can be played out differently, with Valorplates and Augments that can be equipped to better suit the player’s style. Godfall supports both single-player and a cooperative mode of up to 3 players.
GHOST OF TSUSHIMA DIRECTOR’S CUT
Following the success of Ghost of Tsushima, released in July 2020 for the PlayStation 4, the game will now get a Director’s Cut edition exclusively for the PlayStation 5, releasing on August 20, 2021.
Ghost of Tsushima is an action-adventure game developed by Sucker Punch, which you may know from games like inFamous Second Son and The Sly Collection.
The game features an open-world setting, where the player controls a samurai called Jin Sakai. This samurai is on a quest to protect Tsushima Island from the Mongols, during the first Mongol invasion of Japan, which took place in 1274 and 1281.
Played from a third-person perspective, the player uses their katana to chain up a series of fatal strikes. With access to bows with different types of arrows and also a stealth system, Ghost of Tsushima gives the player several different options to take on the multiple enemies encountered along the way.
Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut will introduce a new region, Iki Island, where players can find new quests and trophies to unlock. This PS5 version will take advantage of the new PlayStation 5 features like the controller’s haptic feedback and 4K options.
Released for Windows, macOS, and Switch in September 2020, Hades’ PlayStation4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S debut is slated for August 13, 2021.
Developed and published by Supergiant Games, Hades is a roguelike action dungeon crawler. Players control the son of Hades, Zagreus, as he tries to escape from the Underworld to reach Mount Olympus. During his journey, Zagreus is aided by Olympian gods, who give him gifts that contain powerful buffs.
With a hack and slash combat system, the player has access to the main weapon attack, a dashing power, and magic ability. With the combination of these moves with a dodge system, players need to be extra careful during each run, so that they reach the next stage with the maximum health points possible.
Despite being returned to the beginning of Hell immediately after death, the player can use treasure obtained during the run to improve and upgrade certain attributes, unlocking new and powerful weapons.
From Amplitude Studios, Humankind is an upcoming strategy-based game published by Sega for Windows, macOS, and Stadia, to be released on August 17, 2021.
In Humankind, players will lead their civilization across six major eras of human civilization. Controlling the expansion of their civilization, players will be able to develop cities, control the military and interact with other randomly generated civilizations.
One interesting feature of the game is that within each period, you’ll be able to select one of the multiple civilizations, each with its own bonuses and penalties. This type of customization allows for the player to choose one from potentially one million different civilization patterns existing in the game.
Resource-gathering is an important part of the game, with food, industry, gold, science, and influence being the main stat points in Humankind. These resources can be used to upgrade technology, speed up production, and trade goods with other civilizations.
The famous American football video game franchise is back for another year, and it’s scheduled for an August 20 2021 release. Published by EA Sports, Madden 2022 is a no-brainer when it comes to sports games.
Sharing the game’s cover, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady are featured as honor athletes, having previously appeared on Madden 2020 and Madden 2018 respectively.
The biggest changes to this year’s Madden are coming in the form of the franchise model. For example, the player is now able to hire and upgrade its franchise coaching staff, across four positions: Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator, Defensive Coordinator, and Player Personnel. Within each position comes an individual skill tree which can be upgraded to improve the coaches the player has in each position.
With 3 Madden 2022 editions available for pre-order purchase, the standard edition, the MVP edition, and the Dynasty Edition. The player has to choose if they are willing to pay some extra money to get a bunch of cool bonuses, like 20, 60, and 100 staff points in each version respectively.
